Valle hermoso hike
Valle Hermoso is a paradise of native forest with incredible centenary coigües, located behind the Cordillera de la Mortandad. This walk is a long day of walking that allows you to have incredible views over the Malalcura hill, the Piedras estuary valley and the Chillán volcanic complex, as well as passing through different native forest ecosystems. Only if the group has a very good rhythm and physical condition, we can walk a couple of hours more to reach the top of Cerro La Mortandad (or Cerro Bandera).
From the entrance of the Fundo Alico, we will begin to walk through beautiful meadows before continuing through the native forest, observing how the vegetation changes as we climb (about 1000 m of unevenness!). Your guide will make you discover the wonderful native forest of this area and its different species, one of them in danger of extinction (the Luma del Norte, Legrandia concinna). In about 4 hours walking we will reach an old forest of coigües (Nothofagus dombeyi), a place called Valle Hermoso. If the group continues with enough energy to walk, we will continue a little longer until we reach a beautiful viewpoint with views over the Bullileo mountain range and the Chillán volcano, very active at the moment! After a delicious picnic, we will rest and calmly go down to San Fabián.
