Malalcura mountain hike
Full-day adventure, an intense climb of 1,400 meters of altitude gain (leaving from the town of San Fabián) until reaching the top of an emblematic hill of the San Fabián commune, the Malalcura, “stone corral” in Mapudungún. The incredible granite rocks of the summit, the native flora and the dizzying view that this mountain offers us are worth it!
We will leave San Fabián very early for a long day of walking, with the aim of reaching the cross on the southern summit of Cerro Malalcura. In the case of wanting to walk a little less, there is the possibility of coordinating 4 * 4 transport, which reduces the unevenness to 800 positive meters to reach the summit.
During the first 2-3 hours of walking, we will go up a forest path in the middle of a relatively intervened native forest, and finally through wild ecosystems of native forest where perhaps we will be able to see woodpeckers. Your guide will make you discover the wonderful native forest of this area and its different species. After having walked for approximately 3-4 hours, we will reach more open parts where we can admire the west face of Malalcura and its huge granite walls, as well as the town of San Fabián below. 1-2 hours later we will reach the southern summit of this beautiful mountain, with some easy climbing parts (no rope required) at the end of the ascent. From there, we will take the time to rest and enjoy the wonderful panorama that is offered to us over the mountain range of the Ñuble region … before going down quietly.
